What do you like to do at birthday parties? I'm hearing games, decorations, treats, cake,

all good answers. But what if I told you the birthday boy isn't a boy, but a panda?

That's right. Shao Shi Ji, a panda who lives at this Smithsonian National Zoo in Washington,

DC, is turning to today. And they're throwing a panda party.

But what makes pandas so popular? How quickly do pandas grow up? And why wouldn't it be a good idea

to have balloons at a panda party? It's time for another whiff of science on... Who Smarted?

cubs from place to place until they're old enough to move on their own. Isn't that right, Mama panda?

Newborn pandas are too weak to stand until around three months old. And for six months after birth,

baby pandas rely entirely on their mother's warmth, milk, and protection. It's not until they're
