0:58.1

I'm Orla from Norfolk and I want to know why leaves are green? Ora, why leaves green? It's all to do with a pigment called chlorophyll.

1:06.3

pigment, it's a chemical. It helps trees get their energy energy maybe you've heard of photosynthesis where trees

1:15.2

they use carbon dioxide sunlight and water to have energy and then with that they create oxygen

1:23.9

which is what we need for energy so it's a wonderful cycle where us and the trees,

1:29.1

where we help each other. Well, chlorophyll, it's this chemical, it changes carbon dioxide and

1:33.4

water into sugars which feed the tree. So it needs sunlight to do that. And what chlorophyll does

1:40.6

is it reflects back, it absorbs a lot of the energy, but it reflects back the green

1:46.8

light waves from the sun. So the only colour that you're seeing, which is bouncing back from the

1:53.3

sunlight, is green, which is why leaves are green. But they change throughout the year,
