We are just starting a brand new series so this is a perfect time for you to join us.

We are going to be walking through the biblical book that is called Proverbs.

And in yesterday's episode I walked through what a proverb is and today, as we look at

chapter 1 verses 1 through 6, we are going to see the author's description of why he wrote

this book of Proverbs.

Let's read verse number 1, it says, the Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel.

So that's our author, Solomon, king Solomon, the son of David, who the Bible says, was

the wisest man ever to live.

So if anyone is going to teach us why sayings, which is what Proverbs are, Solomon is the

one to do it.

Now verse 2, he gives us his reason for writing down all of these Proverbs.

He says, to know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction

and him wise dealing in righteousness, justice and equity, to give prudence to the simple,

knowledge and discretion to the youth, let the wise here and increase in learning and

the one who understands, obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words

of the wise and their riddles.

So you see Solomon's purpose here is to give us some tools through these Proverbs that

will help us to become wise and to understand on a deeper level how to apply things wisely
