| 0:24.4 | We are going to be walking through the biblical book that is called Proverbs. |
| 0:29.4 | And in yesterday's episode I walked through what a proverb is and today, as we look at |
| 0:34.0 | chapter 1 verses 1 through 6, we are going to see the author's description of why he wrote |
| 0:41.6 | this book of Proverbs. |
| 0:44.4 | Let's read verse number 1, it says, the Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel. |
| 0:51.0 | So that's our author, Solomon, king Solomon, the son of David, who the Bible says, was |
| 0:56.5 | the wisest man ever to live. |
| 0:59.2 | So if anyone is going to teach us why sayings, which is what Proverbs are, Solomon is the |
| 1:04.7 | one to do it. |
| 1:06.2 | Now verse 2, he gives us his reason for writing down all of these Proverbs. |
| 1:10.9 | He says, to know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction |
| 1:19.2 | and him wise dealing in righteousness, justice and equity, to give prudence to the simple, |
| 1:28.4 | knowledge and discretion to the youth, let the wise here and increase in learning and |
| 1:35.0 | the one who understands, obtain guidance, to understand a proverb and a saying, the words |
| 1:41.6 | of the wise and their riddles. |
| 1:45.0 | So you see Solomon's purpose here is to give us some tools through these Proverbs that |
| 1:50.7 | will help us to become wise and to understand on a deeper level how to apply things wisely |
