In 2016, a long-haul trucker and his wife — a night-shift nurse expecting their first child — moved into a modest three-bedroom house just outside Newport News, Virginia. The home was bright, only fifteen years old, and seemed perfect for starting their family… until the first weekend.

While painting the nursery closet, he heard slow, deliberate footsteps overhead in the empty loft. A few weeks later came flickering lights, quick camera-like flashes in the corners of their eyes, and what sounded like muffled voices upstairs when no one was home.

After their baby arrived, the upstairs began to feel heavy and oppressive at night.
 One early-morning wake-up changed everything: at 3 A.M., the couple heard the glow of the husband’s sleeping laptop screen and the unmistakable sound of keys slowly tapping — tap… tap-tap… tap.

Grabbing a flashlight, he crept up the stairs. The typing stopped the moment he stepped into the loft. The desk chair turned slowly on its own, then faced him and went still.
