Brother Waliyu Rahman from India writes that

The name of Ibrahim Ali his salams father

In the Quran it is called Azar and yet

He heard that this was not the name of his father that it was not Azar and so he's asking that what who was Azar in the Quran?

And we have not been sent from before you

who came to him

so ask the people of the memory if you do not know

So the Quran mentions in Surat Al-An'am verse 74

Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala says

Remember when Ibrahim said to his father Azar

And so Allah says to Ibrahim's father Azar

Now from the text of the Quran it seems very clear that Azar is the proper noun of the father of Ibrahim

However from the time of the sahaba

We've had sahaba that have had other opinions about this issue

And the reason for this is that the books of genealogy and the books of the other scriptures and nations

And the Isra'iliyat all mention another name

And his name is mentioned as Taneh or Tera

And because of this many of the early scholars including some of the sahaba including Ibn Abbas and others

They said that his name was Taneh or Tera

And Azar is either a Lakob which is a title

Or it is his name in his original language or another language
