0:00.0 | Well, hello there. It's Morgan here and welcome to today's episode. Today's episode is called |
0:07.1 | Who Told You You Were Not Free to Swim Wildly Into the Deep? Who told you you were not free? |
0:13.7 | Who told you you were not free to swim wildly into the deep? The title of this episode is also the title and beginning of a poem, |
0:28.1 | which happens to be my personal favorite poem that I wrote. In my new book, you are only just |
0:36.1 | beginning. And side note about being a writer and putting things out |
0:41.6 | there. I am very hard on myself and it takes me a long time before I start saying things like, |
0:49.6 | oh, that's my favorite poem in that book. I have an interesting relationship with things that I |
0:56.0 | create. I'll make it and I'll feel some type of way about it. And then I'll give it a side eye. |
1:03.1 | And the way that I feel about it will ebb and flow and I just have to release and let go and |
1:08.9 | let other people feel how they want to feel about it. |

1:21.5 | And I don't care if everybody else in the world dislikes it or tells me it's the worst thing they ever read, |
1:29.4 | I know that I needed to put that down on the page and I know that it matters. So this is one of |
1:36.3 | those poems. It's very special to me. This book comes out in a month and I'm so excited for it to be out in the world. But in the |
1:45.7 | meantime, I just wanted to share this poem with you for your day today and also the question as |
1:53.7 | well. Who told you you were not free to swim wildly into the deep. Perhaps it was a well-meaning worried hand, |
2:05.6 | yanking your fearless body back to the shore. I just don't want you to drown. I don't think you're ready yet. |
2:14.6 | I just want you to be careful. So you backed away. You were |
2:21.7 | careful that day and the next day and for the rest of the decade and the next decade. Years of |
2:32.4 | carelessness all tangled up, holding you back. You know how to swim. There is such |
2:41.5 | thing as healthy fear, but don't let it keep you from the waves. Let fear wash away. You need to go deeper here so again that poem is titled who told you you were not free to swim wildly into the deep |
3:03.7 | and when i wrote this poem i wasn't really thinking about anything in particular |
