Last December, Canadian authorities arrested the CFO of Chinese tech giant Huawei.

Stemming from U.S. charges, the company made deals with Iran.

That, coupled with the persistent talk of the war for global 5G network supremacy

pitting the U.S. versus China, has made Huawei a media buzzword for nefarious Chinese spying.

At the heart of the allegations that Huawei skirted U.S. sanctions on Iran doing business there

through banks in the U.S. via a subsidiary called Skycom.

But the link isn't entirely unwarranted. In the last few years, the U.S. has charged

Huawei with stealing trade secrets from T-Mobile, ban companies from using Huawei's networking

equipment, and ban the sale of its phones to military bases. The Chinese company is a global leader in telecoms equipment and one of the world's biggest

smartphone makers.

Both the U.S. Congress and others have warned that Beijing could use Huawei's equipment

to spy on the world.

And for the record, Chinese state hackers have stolen everything from F-35 fighter jet plans

to Benjamin Moore paint recipes.
