Today, who killed Jody Chesney?

On a weekend at the start of March there were two murders which caused an outrage.

Knife crime was getting out of control we were told and this was the moment that things had to change.

Two 17 year olds were killed in two separate attacks, one in London,

one in Greater Manchester. Last week, two teenagers were found guilty of murdering the girl killed in London,

Jody Chesney. Her picture was everywhere at the time.

Her long dark hair under a trilby hat, wearing glasses,

smiling warmly. She looked like a really great person. For the last few weeks

the BBC's Dan Johnson has sat through the trial of Jody's killers at the old

Bailey. He's spoken to her friends, her family, her dad. And Dan came in and told

us that the story of what happened to Jody is far more than a horrific tale of just one teenager's murder.

It tells us something about why people are getting killed with knives.

Jody was 17 years old.

She's grown up in East London.

She's lived most of her life with her dad.

Her mom's not really been on the scene, not being part of her upbringing, though she is around.

So she's been brought up by the Chesney family by her dad Peter, her uncles and her nans been a big feature in her life

as sort of being the mother figure who's around. Jody's described by her friends as a

lovable geek. She works hard, she studies, she did the right thing, she volunteered, she was a big presence in the venture scouts.
