Summary

(Acts 1:1) Who is your Theophilus? Though little is known about this man, it is obvious that Luke invested much in teaching him God's truth. Luke's example should challenge us all to find someone that we can reach and teach for Christ. (07004230105)  Join Scott Pauley's study through Scripture this year. As we read the gospel records, we read eyewitness accounts of the life and ministry of the Lord Jesus.

In a sense, the gospels are just the beginning of Christ's work. The adventure continues in the

Book of Acts. In this study with

0:22.6

Scott Pauli, we consider the continuing work of Christ through the Holy Spirit, who works through

the apostles in the New Testament Church. Now, let's get in on the adventure.

I know, I know if we don't move on from the first verse of the book of Acts, this is going to be the longest series in the history of enjoying the journey.

But if you'll permit me, just to stay here for another episode or two, I want to show you

0:52.5

something that the Holy Spirit is using to

1:05.3

thinking we get it already. We know it. But listen to the opening words of Acts 1-1. The former treaties have I made

1:14.2

O Theophilus. Now we know, of course, that Luke is the writer of this book of the Bible.

1:21.8

He wrote the gospel record also that bears his name. So the former treaties that he's referencing

1:27.1

here was the gospel record,

1:29.5

the gospel according to Luke. Now, that's fascinating to me because if you go to the end of his

1:35.5

gospel record, this is how Luke chapter number 24 ends. The Bible says that they were continually

1:41.1

in the temple, praising and blessing God, amen.

1:50.5

So it's a picture of the resurrected Christ and the Christ who is being ascended back to the Heavenly Father.

1:56.7

So when you come to Acts chapter 1 and verse number 1, essentially he's just picking up right where he leaves off.

2:03.4

And the book of Acts is not just the continuation of Luke's gospel record, it's really a continuation of all of the gospel records.

2:06.0

For example, if you have your Bible open and you look at the last verse of the previous book,

2:10.8

John chapter 21, verse 25 says, and there are also many of the things which Jesus did,
