Hello and welcome to this special Sky Sports Football podcast where we will be discussing and debating who's been the best player in the Premier League this season.

As you can imagine, with the coronavirus stopping football and restricting the way we can work, we've had to get creative with how we record this podcast.

But hopefully, while harnessing the power of the internet, we can provide you with a nice distraction from what's going on around the world for the next 30 minutes or so. I'm Peter Smith, the Sky Sports Football Features Editor. And later in the show, I'll be joined by my colleagues, Nick Wright and Gerard Brand to take an in-depth look into the star performers in the Premier League this season.

At first, I'm delighted to say, Scott's what's Pundit, Jamie Rednapp's on the line. Jamie, how are you? Yeah, not too bad, Peter. Yeah, it's obviously strange times for everybody, and I just like everybody's all right and keep it safe. But it's, I'm just pleased the weather's quite nice, and so people, if they can, you know, we get that out of fresh air,

at least the weather's nice and a bit of sunshine for everybody.

Yeah, absolutely. We're trying to keep spirits up here as well, and I thought we'd maybe have a look back now at the players who have stood out this season. There's a bit of distraction for everyone and a bit of light-hearted chats. So, I mean, if you look back, Jamie,

the player of the season, if you were asked to vote this season, who would be your contenders? Who would you go for? Oh, Peter, this is a toughie, isn't it? Because there's been some outstanding performances from players. You know, if you look at the Liverpool players, an example, the captain Jordan Henderson has been phenomenal. or he's a leader, I think not just on the field, but off it.

And you can see when, but off it.

And you can see when players talk about it, and they talk about him with such high esteem.

The players at Liverpool really adore him, the job that he's done.

So Jordan Henderson, you know, Sadio Manet, his influence on the team,

his goals, his, you know, Sadio Manet, his influence on the team, his goals, his, you know,

assist, everything about his game.

Mohammed Sala as well has been phenomenal.

I think that when you talk about defenders in the world right now, and I remember saying a few years ago about Virgil Randite that he's the best defender in the world,

and I've got laughed off the place it off the face of the earth. Everyone was like, what you're talking about? But you could just tell what a player he was and so composed. I think he's up there. Even a goalkeeper, you could mention a goalkeeper. But the one player, I think, apart from Liverpool players, that really stands out for me is Kevin DeBreiner.

I think he's been absolutely phenomenal. His stats this year have been his best ever.

And I think if the rest of the city side would have been as consistent as what he is, I think.

They'd have probably been contending with Liverpool.

Yeah, absolutely. Well, let's get into those players in a second, Jane.

Just overall, obviously, you picked out Liverpool men's city players. Do you feel like the player of the season has to come from a team that's challenging for the title? I think if you look back at, you know, if we say the PFA and the FWA or the two main awards, the only player who's not come from a top team in that time would be Scott Parker, I think,

in 10-11.
