Thanksgiving is not just a holiday.

It is a way of life.

As we study the scriptures with Scott Pauley today,

we pray that God will help us learn how to develop grateful hearts and hopes. Some time ago, the USA Today printed an ad,

and that particular ad began with a question. It simply said, who are you thankful for?

But most of us list the things for which we're most grateful to God.

Our list have lots of whats instead of whose.

And oh yes, we would say we're thankful for family.

But who specifically?

You know, I think that when you really begin to reflect on life and the goodness of God, the greatest blessings are not things.

They truly are people who've made a difference in our life.

Take for example the way we express gratitude even for eternal life.

We say things like, I'm thankful for salvation.

I'm grateful that I'm going to heaven.

I'm happy that I don't have to go to hell.

We've reduced our thankfulness to some thing or to some place.

When in reality, eternal life is someone.

It is the life of the eternal God living inside of us.

When we express our gratitude, we should be grateful for the Lord Jesus Christ. That same principle is evidenced in our prayer life. Today I want to bring

you to 1 Timothy chapter 2 verses 1 and 2, where the Bible says, I exhort therefore that first of all,

supplications, prayers, intercessions,

and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings, and for all that are in authority,
