We're instructed Father that the Holy Spirit is the one who will take this word and

either withhold his influences and leave us with a dead letter perishing, or come to us, circumcise our hearts,

write the law and this word on our hearts so that it transforms us and unites us to you in love.

And for that we ask.

I beg of you, Father, in spite of unworthiness, don't leave us to ourselves now.

A sermon minus the Holy Spirit is dead. And so come and give us life in your word. I pray. In Jesus

name, amen. name. The purpose of the second chapter of Romans is to underline the need of the Jewish

people for the gospel along with the rest of us.

Everybody according to chapter 3 verse 9 without exception is under the power of sin and in desperate need for the gift of righteousness that God

freely gives to those who trust in Him through Jesus.

But he's focusing on the Jewish people and he's underlining the fact that in spite of all the advantages that they have in Redemptive History, they need the Gospel still.

And the way he underlines this in verses 25 to 29

is by saying that Jews, even though they're

circumcised and even though they do many external

ritually correct things are not Jews.

Many of them are simply not Jews.

On the other hand, in verse 27, he says,

and some Gentiles, in spite of being uncircumsized and not doing some of those ritual things,

are Jews, are truly circumcised.

And the question just explodes for the Jew and Gentile in Paul's Day.

How can this be?

How can you talk as though Jews are not Jews and Gentiles are Jews, what are you meaning?
