Today, why is the government so keen to set off Channel 4?

The world.

Growing up as a suburban British kid in a nowhere town in the 90s, I'd say that Channel 4 played a key part in my education.

It was the first stop for finding high art and high trash in the same place.

Arguably, in a single episode of the word watched late at night with my sister,

desperately trying to tape all the good bits that we now nostalgicly scour YouTube for.

The music entertainment show created to bridge the gap between infancy and adultery.

We've got a nice set.

I couldn't have put my finger on it then.

But Channel 4 was a station that mattered because it wasn't so straight-laced.

It was relatable.

And it had my early broadcast hero, Zena Badawi, on Primetime Telly.

Good evening. Is it stalemate being talked up as progress or has there been a real breakthrough in the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks in Cairo?

It formed my cultural tastes.

It's where I found art house cinema and Bollywood films to watch with my parents.

And it's where I still flick to to find a show that will make me cackle out loud.
