It's the media buzz meter with Howard Kurtz.

I was absolutely stunned to wake up this morning and find out that Pope Francis had died at the age of 88.

Now, obviously, he's had a lot of health problems,

spent five weeks in the hospital with double pneumonia.

But once he was released, I figured, well, they're not going to let him out of the hospital if he's not capable of living on his own.

But, and this is so typical of this Pope, who was such an inspiring figure in my view,

I'm not a Catholic, but I followed his career closely.

And I think he was a Pope, you know, for people around the world where they were members

of the church or not.

And he didn't follow doctor's orders.

They basically told him, don't do much, need to rest.

And he wanted to be an active pope.

So, you know, his last full day on this planet, he came out and presided over, you know, the annual Easter

gathering at the Vatican. He didn't just rest. He didn't just take it easy. And now he's no

longer with us.

The thing I remember most vividly,

I remember when this happened,

is he talking to reporters

and the subject was gay priests

and he said,

who am I to judge?

That was the Pope's philosophy
