Summary

Working the night shift alone in the kitchen of a three-story retirement home meant long stretches of silence after residents had gone to bed and the rest of the staff had clocked out. At first, the strange moments were easy to dismiss — sinks running that hadn’t been turned on, footsteps in empty halls, the faint sound of a crowded dining room long after it had been cleared.
But then patterns began to form. Two different residents, years apart, described the same glowing red eyes staring in through a second-story window. A woman in a blue dress crossed a freshly mopped floor — and disappeared when she was approached. One night, in a darkened kitchen, something ran straight at her and stopped inches from her face.
The building had seen decades of life — and death. And during those quiet overnight hours, it never truly felt empty.
