A popular saying for when you get caught doing something shady, maybe offhanded, or just as a way to try to diffuse a tense situation.

It's also been used in attempts to clear murderers' names and their reputations and has played out in a major motion picture like The Conjuring.

The sad and terrifying truth is that there may be more to these claims.

In just the past year alone, we've seen headlines like this.

From Las Vegas, mother attempts to kill newborn, says baby was evil.

The 22-year-old was charged with attempted murder.

Personal injury lawyer who mowed down four people in a parking lot because the voices in her

head told her to do so has been suspended from the Florida bar. A mom has been arrested for

murdering an eight-year-old son, allegedly saying demons told

her to kill the boy.

And a Huey Town man who said demons told him to fatally stab, beat, and kill his mother

has been sent to a mental health facility.
