Welcome to The Man Talk Show. I'm Connor Beaton and today we're going to talk about meaning and purpose.

Many of you have been asking for me to talk about meaning and purpose and so I thought I would share

some thoughts about what blocks purpose, what allows us to feel connected to it, where we go astray.

So I'm going to start off with some words by Neil deGrasse

Tyson. He says the problem often not discovered until late in life is that when you look for things

in life like love, meaning, motivation, it implies that they are sitting behind a tree or under a rock.

The most successful people in life recognize that in life they create their own love.

They manufacture their own meaning.

They generate their own motivation.

And for me, I am driven by two main philosophies, no more today about the world than I knew yesterday, and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you. So here, in some ways, Neil deGrasse Tyson is shedding light on how he derives meaning and purpose from

existence in his own life, right?

So learn, explore your creativity, explore what you're passionate about, explore what lights you up,

what ignites you, be curious and learn about the things that matter to you, that bring you

into contact with a sense of wonder or awe about existence, that expand your internal and external realities and lessen

the suffering of others. So for him, you know, what I think he's saying is he tries to act in a way

both through his speech and in his actions and in his decisions and in the work that he does, that is going to lessen

the suffering of other people. It's going to elevate and alleviate what people are naturally

struggling with. So here you have a man who has sort of two basic principles from which all of his meaning and purpose derives.

So I want to talk a little bit about how do you as an individual begin to find more

meaning, more purpose in your life? Because the truth is we live in a world where

meaninglessness has become rampant.
