0:13.0	But like, where exactly are the borders of Scandinavia?
0:16.0	Because not all of this stuff is in it.
0:18.0	Scandinavia is just three countries exactly, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark.
0:23.0	Three kingdoms, to be more precise, all of which are on the Scandinavian peninsula? Well,
0:28.3	except Denmark and or plus Finland? Wait, this doesn't help at all, forget that. The three
0:33.3	countries on this peninsula can be collectively called Fenncandia, but if you do, everyone
0:38.4	will look at you weird because no one except the nerdiest of geography nerds uses that word,
0:43.6	Fenoscandia.
0:45.2	So Scandinavia is a term that's one part geography, one part history, and one part linguistics,
0:50.5	which is why people will argue about who exactly is included. Finland is normally excluded because she used to be considered one of the Baltic sisters with historical ties to Mother Russia,
1:00.0	and Denmark, though on the other side of the sea, is included because of her relationship, it's complicated with Sweden.
1:06.0	They've had something like 15 to 21 wars between them, depending on how you want to count it.
1:11.6	And it's complicated er because they mostly fought over Norway.
1:15.6	And who wouldn't? She's beautiful and rich.
1:18.6	Anyway, when outsiders say Scandinavia, they probably mean the Nordic countries.
1:22.6	That's these three plus Finland and Iceland.
1:24.6	Though you can hardly blame people for confusion when organizations like the American Scandinavia Foundation lists everyone as members,
1:32.2	and all the Nordic countries sometimes advertise abroad under the banner of Scandinavia anyway.
1:36.9	This is the Holland approach to international relations.
