This week we need to turn to the Caribbean island of Cuba because there's something strange going on.

This is the deputy director of Cuba's National Office of Statistics and Information, telling the country's

National Assembly that the Cuban population has dropped by more than a million

people in just two years. That's just over 10% of the population. Gone.

A day 1% percent,

days earlier, a Cuban demographer had estimated the number was even higher,

suggesting the population had fallen by 18% or more than 1.8 million people.

Whichever is right, it's a huge loss for any population.

This level of loss is unseen.
