Summary

How do things go so wrong so quickly? We saw the fall of humanity in Genesis 3 with Adam and Eve, and we see our own failures play out daily. This week, Kylen Perry walks us through the original sin and shows us how we often repeat similar patterns and how God always remains faithful in the midst of our brokenness.

Well, hey, a couple weeks ago, we started a brand new series here at the porch in the book of Genesis. It just felt fitting, you know, beginning of the year, beginning of the Bible. They just seem to be a match made in heaven, no pun intended. And so we've been journeying Genesis 1, Genesis 2. We had a conversation kind of in the middle there whenever the snowstorm hit. And tonight we are sitting in what is one of the most iconic passages of

0:37.9

scripture. We are looking at Genesis 3. So if you have a Bible, you can go ahead and turn there

0:41.5

with me right now. While you're doing that, I'll just lead off with a story because I think

0:46.0

maybe my misery can set us up pretty well. Here's what happened a couple of weeks ago. Brooke and I,

0:52.7

we had just finished dinner. And we were playing with cash right before bedtime. We were sitting in our sunroom. And so we're kind of closing the evening down. And so I get up and I go to the kitchen. I know there's some dishes. And so I start to make my way just to do some dishes before we go and we put the little baby boy to sleep. And as I'm walking into the kitchen, I step into a puddle of water. And it just occurred to me. You know, maybe it's, maybe it's a leak off of the fridge. You know, sometimes you get tap water and things spill. Maybe it's something out the dishwasher, pulling out plates or dishes and finding that stuff kind of leaves a mess. Maybe it was Cassius water cup. You know, he has a tendency to just kind of throw that thing around and leave a mess wherever

1:28.5

it falls. And so I step back to survey the damage and what am I really dealing with here?

1:32.3

And as I take it all in, what I realize to my horror is it's way worse than I thought it was.

1:37.4

Because it was not just a puddle of water. It was a pool of water streaming into our entryway

1:43.5

from the utility room where our guest bathroom is.

1:48.9

And so I pull back the pocket door and I put on my slides and I begin to make my way into

1:54.5

what is a damage zone. I mean, it is an absolute mess in here. And so I know my way around some things in the

2:02.6

house. I'm kind of a DIY sort of guy. And yet one of the things that I do not claim to have

2:07.3

any kind of fame with is plumbing. I know next to nothing about plumbing, but, and fellas, if you

2:13.0

don't know this, you need to learn it, you know to turn off the water behind the toilet should

2:20.1

ever the toilet be overflowing. So I swiftly move and I grabbed the knob and I spin it righty

2:25.5

tidy, which shuts down the water. And then I grab a pitcher and I start to drain it off into the

2:30.7

sink. As I'm doing that, as I'm repairing what appears to be a broken

2:36.0

situation, the situation only seems to break all the more. Because as I'm draining the water

2:41.0

off into the sink, the toilet continues to overflow. And I have no idea what's happening, because

2:45.5

in this moment, I've already shut off the water. And yet, the water's spilling. I'm racing.

2:52.8

And so I go and I grab not one but two pictures. I'm double fisting, trying to get the water out of the toilet and into the sink to

2:57.4

keep my house from becoming an absolute blood zone. And yet, a moment comes where I realize I'm out
