So on Friday, I was supposed to fly out to Montreal for the weekend and come back.

I was supposed to go for dinner with my family, and then I was supposed to meet up with my girlfriend.

Then I got a call on Thursday.

I was at work from our immigration lawyer, she said.

She just messaged me, basically.

She said, do you have a minute, like, please grab room so we can talk in private. So I went on the room and spoke to her. And she said, so where are you right now? So she said, okay, don't leave the country because it looks like you're not going to be able, you're going to be included on this executive order is coming up and you might have trouble coming back in. On January 25th, 2017, a little over a week ago to the date of

this recording, the newly elected president of the U.S., Donald Trump, issued an executive order

banning immigration into the U.S. from seven countries, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, Libya,

Sudan, and Somalia. The order has since sent the entire world reeling. And as we all are still

kind of shaking off the shock of what the consequences of this means, we wanted to put together

a short episode to make sense of it all.

As a disclaimer, this isn't our typical Kernan Culture's episode where we tried to dive deeply and tell a complete story.

The past week and a half have been such a whirlwind. We just wanted to capture these moments and try our best to understand it all, for you and just as equally for us.

And just as these events are unfolding piecemeal, we thought we'd style this episode similarly,

as a collage of moments from the past week and a half.

We'll weave individual stories together with recordings from protest marches

our team of producers attended in the UK and in the US in Philadelphia and in Seattle.
