It sort of made me go away and think about the nature of the lobby, which is the collective name for the

journalists who work in Parliament and report on what's going on. And they rely almost entirely

on briefings. So some of them are official. Some of them are off the record.

Some of them are on the record.

Some of them are sort of unofficial things that you might just pick up in conversations over the telephone

or when you bump into somebody in the cafe in Port Collis House, which is the building

where MPs have their offices.

So a briefing is essentially somebody with power or information that wants to share it with a

journalist.

And often it means in a non-attributable way.
