the I saw a shooting star.

A big one, too.

I was exiting Walmart, pushing my buggy, and it was dusk, and the sky was pink, with a little flex of gold.

And I looked into the cloudless sky where it was, and I saw a long streak shooting across the heavens, moving faster than a knife fight in a phone booth.

I stopped walking.

I closed my eyes, and I made a wish.

Now, I cannot divulge what I wished for, of course.

Otherwise, the wish would never come true.

But what I will tell you is that the last time I saw a real shooting star, I was 15 years old.

Fifteen was a bad year for me.
