Whenever it looks in our family, in our life, in our church, in our nation, like resistance to Jesus is winning.

We, at that very point, we Christians need a clear, robust vision of the sovereignty of God

over the resistance to Jesus, which comes out at least four times in this chapter,

and that's why Judas is put on display twice.

I want to look at the magnificent offer in these verses 52 to 71? This is sweet if you'll have it.

Number two, the mounting resistance to it.

And number three, the clearer and clearer and clearer statement of God's sovereignty over that resistance.

Those are the three things.

So let's do the offer first.

Verse 53 states it negatively and verse 54 states it positively.

53. Jesus said to them, truly, truly, I say to you, unless... states it negatively and verse 54 states it positively.

Jesus said to them, truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.

Now positively, verse 54, whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and I'll raise him up at the last day

in other words if you don't eat this flesh and drink this blood you don't have eternal life

if you do eat this flesh and drink this blood you do have eternal life now verses 55 and 56 give two reasons for why that's so.
