A friend of mine told me that she has a prayer list that she calls the impossibles. She puts hard

prayer requests on this list and prays for God's will to be done in each case. What she doesn't

do is she doesn't put a time limit on these requests. She expects God to answer, but she also

expects to wait. When you're facing a problem that is years old,

it's hard to believe that it can ever be fixed, isn't it? We can't help thinking like this

It is true that our abilities are limited, but thankfully God doesn't have our limitations.

We just need to remind ourselves that he works differently than we expect him to work because he sees the big picture and we only see our part

of the picture. Let's learn some lessons from the life of someone who had a seemingly endless problem.

The Bible doesn't call her by name, but describes her as the woman with the issue of blood.

That's what she's referred to as. There are several

lessons woven into her brief appearance in scripture. Let's look at them. First, suffering

sometimes lasts a very long time. That's the first thing we can learn from this story. The Bible

doesn't tell us a lot about this woman, but from what we do

know, her disease of hemorrhaging lasted for 12 years. It is miraculous that she lived that long.

Without getting too graphic, monthly cycles for women are draining enough just with normal loss of blood. But when a woman is bleeding

profusely, it can easily become life-threatening, ranging from anemia to heart failure. At best,

a woman who is bleeding for longer than seven days will feel very weak and tired and probably
