So I began walking for fitness in 2013. My fitness journey actually began five years prior to that.

I was approaching my 48th birthday. I realized that I was gaining weight. It was kind of a subtle thing. I've always been

a thin guy. And then I was slowly becoming unthin. I also wasn't feeling great.

Self-diagnosis, don't recommend this,

but my impression was I was having some blood sugar issues.

And I was aware sort of that there was some diabetes that runs in my family.

My mom had some blood sugar issues that I believe was taking care of with some nutrition changes.

And my grandfather, my dad's dad, a similar thing.

I was not feeling great and kind of chalked it up to some blood sugar issues.

Was aware that exercise could have an impact on that.

Also was aware that exercise could have an impact on weight gain.

So I started running and was a runner for five years until I realized I like walking far more than running.
