Is there a statute of limitations on spoilers?

I'm kind of worried because I really don't like ruining things for people. Dumbledore dies. What? And he's gay. I am going to put forth the argument that if it's for the story, I'm always okay with the character dying. For a number of reasons. One, I mean, if the story is going to progress better without the character, then I absolutely want that to happen. But I think there's this other element of the

fact that, you know, in real life, people die. Death is a very real aspect of life. And I think

if you want a truly poignant, affecting story, often that has to involve death.
