I'm driving across southern Wyoming.

Wind is howling, carrying ice particles with it, pelting my truck.

I'm just topping out on the pass between Laramie and Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Heading to Western Nebraska to hunt White Tails with my good friend Rafe Nielsen of Browning. Should be a good time. I've hunted predators in Nebraska before, but never big game.

Right up front, man, I apologize for the roar in the background that's my old diesel truck I'm driving a

2008 Dodge Ram with a Cummins motor in it. I bought this several months ago because I needed a big

truck for farm work and to pull it and I couldn't afford a newer truck with lower miles.

This one had 347,000 miles on it when I bought it.

Just extraordinary, but the interior is good,

and it drives fantastic. Currently the odometer is about to roll over to

three hundred fifty two thousand miles so I've already put about five thousand miles on it.

Turning now to be a good truck.

Just hope it holds together and continues.

At any rate, today, I've just been, well, I've been driving for hours and my brain's been cranking like it usually

does about various things and bullets and cartridges and hunting is right up there at the top. I got to thinking about times when you don't want to use a controlled expansion deep and a trading bullet design.

Now, as most of you know I'm a big proponent of bullets that go deeply.

Ideally that expand to a big mushroom as well but that are heavy and tough and don't lose

a lot of weight to fragmentation so they drive real deep and at the same time have a big frontal diameter that causes a big wound

channel right I've found this is a really reliable recipe for cleanly killing most game from any reasonable shot angle from

little coosdear in the southwest right up through Alaska Moose.

And the nice thing about a controlled expansion, deep penetrating bullet that's heavy for caliber is there's no situation in which it
