Is that important?

To be left like a foundling in the street of sin and alienation

or to be adopted into the castle of the king.

And the way God adopted you from the misery of being a foundling in the street into the privileges of the king's castle is by taking the son of the castle and killing him in the street.

Doesn't what John Piper just said there amaze you like it does me?

To move us from the poverty of the streets into the home of the king as his children is really to turn the world upside down.

Saul was a Pharisee who hated Christians.

He wanted more than anything in his life to stamp out Christianity,

and thus, in his mind, honor God.

And therefore, when he was on his way to Damascus with authoritative letters from the priest

to capture more Christians and put them into jail, his whole life was turned upside down

when Jesus appeared to him on the Damascus Road.

In an instant, he was shocked, he was stunned, and his whole world crumbled before him.

And in Damascus, a worldview fell apart.

He had thought Jesus was a despicable criminal dead.

And he was cleaning up the remnants of the blasphemy.

And now he had to reckon, unmistakably with the truth, he's not dead.

And he's not only not dead.

He's the Lord of the universe. He can make light shine out of the sky.

He can blind the man. He can make visions come into his head. He can send the man named Ananias and tell you what your future is going to be.
