Thank you all for being here. It takes some courage to come to an event like this and I am glad to be a part of it myself.

Let me pray one more time. Father I ask that what I say here

would be both true and faithful to your word on the one hand and spoken in a way

that would be winsome and healing and strengthening and encouraging and empowering on the other hand.

So be our teacher now and come and do a great work in this conference. I ask in

Jesus name, amen. As often happens with me I give titles way ahead of time and then as I'm preparing the message they don't work

exactly the way I want them to and so I adjust the titles and here's my new title

sorrowful yet always rejoicing how a Christian hedonist experiences the

sorrows of deep disappointment.

So sorrowful yet always rejoicing we're going to end by thudding

that statement over and over from 2 Corinthians 610 and then how a Christian Hedonist experiences the sorrows of deep disappointment.

So this is a talk mainly about the inner workings of the soul and how you experience things.

And frankly, it's a talk off of my front burner, not because I have any major disability physically,

but because there are other things in my life that require me to pursue this, which I think will become evident.

A Christian Hedonist believes God is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in him.

Or as Jonathan Edwards put it, God is glorified not only by his glory being seen, but by being rejoiced in.

When those that see it delight in it, God is more glorified than if they only see it.

His glory is then received by the whole soul,

both by the understanding and by the heart,

which means that we can never reduce God glorifying

obedience to mere action, the action of our body or the action of our reason. God
