lessons difficult to learn, but disastrous to ignore that I want to talk about in this message.

And the theme of this message is waiting upon the Lord. And the title of the message,

when it's wise to wait.

And this is the second part of a two-part series on waiting upon the Lord, why it's wise to wait upon him.

I want you to turn, if you will, to Psalm 27.

And there is a single verse at the end of this passage, Psalm 27, that is a word of encouragement as well as a command

about waiting upon the Lord. And the psalmist says, wait for the Lord, be strong, and let your

heart take courage. Yes, wait for the Lord. Now what do we mean by waiting upon the Lord?

Well, to wait upon the Lord simply means to pause for

further instructions. It means to remain in your present circumstances, doing whatever you're doing,

until God gives you a word of instruction to do otherwise. It isn't just sitting around doing

nothing. It isn't just a passive attitude about life,

but rather it is active stillness. It is directed, purposeful, expectant waiting. It is prayerful,

obedient waiting because there is no such thing as waiting upon God with the absence of prayer

or obedience because if you're going to wait upon him, you must be willing to be obedient to

him and the waiting is going to involve both obedience and prayer. If sometimes we feel like, well,

you know, I want to wait upon God, but I don't know exactly how to do that.

It's really a matter. It's really a simple matter. It is simply being quiet, pausing, waiting for God to give direction and instruction in some specific area of your life, whatever that area may be that's troubling you at the moment.
