The closer Christ got to the cross the less He spoke. Those who are dead to self do not have to argue, debate, and defend. In the heat of trouble we often speak quickly and the words that come out are not helpful. Today we learn that there is a time to say nothing!

speak over one another and get their point across and be heard. You know, some people, I guess, enjoy that kind of conversation,

but usually it doesn't get a lot accomplished.

Yet that was the very setting on the night of our Lord's mock trials.

We might say his mistrials, because everybody had something to say.

And they're all saying, you know, things out of their angry hearts and people are lying and making up things.

There's lots of flesh being shown.

And yet in the midst of all of that is this picture of serenity, of peace, of calm.

And who is that?

That's the Lord Jesus Christ.

I'll remind you that the Lord Jesus has just come from the

prayer closet. He's just come from the place of prayer. And when you come out of the presence of God,

you speak differently. And sometimes you don't speak at all. You hold your tongue. You resist the urge to respond. Flesh wants to answer to flesh. But, you know, honestly, flesh cannot conquer evil. Flesh cannot fix things. Only the Lord can do that. So here's this picture of the Lord Jesus, who has been prayerful, who is filled with the

spirit of God, who is God himself in the midst of all this chaos. And notice how he responds.
