Summary

At some point every Christian's faith will be tested in the area of conscience and duty—to see whether you will have the courage to obey God rather than man wherever man's law and authority contradicts the higher law and authority of God. The Early Church practiced civil disobedience wherever that contradiction existed. We have been living in a time more recently when government and/or employer policies, laws, and ordinances are increasingly at odds with God—with God's policies, laws, and ordinances. And Christians in America are having to decide who is really Lord? And whom will you obey—God or man? Christians should be the best citizens, living in subjection to governing authority, praying and respecting our leaders. But where the contradiction exists, may God help us to say as the Early Church did—"We must obey God rather than men!" (Acts 5:29)

0:00.0	Let's take our Bibles and go to Acts chapter 3.
0:02.1	If you're new to Cornerstone, we go straight through the Bible from cover to cover,

0:40.8	In chapter one of Acts, it is the first time that the ministry of the gospel has been
0:47.4	entrusted to men and women following the ascension of Jesus back to heaven.

0:56.8	advance the good news of Jesus. In chapter two, it is the first time that the Holy Spirit was poured

1:09.6	determined in the Old Testament. But in Acts 2, we see for the first time the Holy Spirit poured out upon all flesh, Peter says this is a fulfillment of Joel, Chapter 2.
1:18.6	It's also the first time in Acts 2 that an evangelical message was preached by Peter in that case.
1:26.1	And it is the first time in chapter two that converts, people come to
1:30.8	faith in Jesus and the early church is, for all intents and purposes, born. Now we come here to
1:37.7	chapter three and we're going to read the first miracle of the early church that God performed through Peter.
1:46.4	And it will be followed up, and it goes along with chapter four, which is the first opposition
1:53.8	to the early church in response to what happened at that first miracle. Now, both of these chapters need to be seen together, chapters three and four, and so I'm
