Russia’s Vladimir Putin has ordered his army into the breakaway rebel areas of eastern Ukraine, despite weeks of Russian assurances that they would not invade. Now Germany’s Chancellor Scholz has stepped up, halting the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline from Russia for now.
