0:25.0 | He fell into disobedience, despair, disaster, and ultimately disgrace. |
0:34.0 | Welcome to Pathway to Victory with author and pastor Dr. Robert Jeffress. The Bible calls Abraham a hero of the faith. |
0:42.0 | But that doesn't mean he never made mistakes. Abraham was flawed just like all of us and he made some embarrassing blunders. |
0:50.0 | Today on Pathway to Victory, Dr. Robert Jeffress talks about one of Abraham's greatest mistakes involving an unwise detour to the land of Egypt. |
1:00.0 | Now here's our Bible teacher to introduce today's message. Dr. Jeffress? |
1:04.0 | Thanks David and welcome again to Pathway to Victory. From time to time you and I have been disappointed with Christian leaders who betrayed their faith. Maybe it was a moral failure or a departure from biblical truth. |
1:18.0 | Perhaps they decided to go woke and follow the crowd. So here's the question. How do we handle these inevitable moments when godly people do ungodly things? |
1:30.0 | I'm going to address this relevant topic on today's program. And I've also given a complete chapter to this important topic in my brand new book. It's called Walking by Faith. |
1:42.0 | When a one-time hero rocks your faith, it's important to cling to God's truth. Because in the end, God never changes nor disappoints. |
1:53.0 | Let me send you a copy of my brand new book Walking by Faith. You won't find this anywhere other than through Pathway to Victory. |
2:01.0 | And the book is my gift to you when you give a generous gift to support the ministry of Pathway to Victory. Again, my new book is called Walking by Faith. And you can request these resources right now by going to ptv.org. |
2:18.0 | David will give all of our contact information and other details just after my message. But right now let's turn in our Bibles to Genesis chapter 12. |
2:28.0 | Today I want to speak with you about what to do when godly people do ungodly things. |
2:35.0 | Mark Twain once said, each of us is like the moon. We have a dark side. We hope nobody ever sees. |
2:46.0 | Unfortunately, that dark side in each of us is eventually exposed. And the greatest catalyst for that exposure is an unexpected disaster in our life. |
2:58.0 | At least that's the way it was for Abraham. If you have your Bibles, turn to Genesis chapter 12. As we look at what happens when godly people do ungodly things. |
3:11.0 | Last time we began our study of Abraham. He is the example of that one quality god desires most in all of us. And that is faith. |
3:21.0 | Remember the definition of faith. Faith is believing that god will do what he's promised to do and acting accordingly. And Abraham did that. |
3:32.0 | Remember Abraham was an idol worshiper. There was nothing more righteous in him. He was a worshiper of false gods. And yet God selected Abraham. And he said while he was an herb of the counties, Abraham I'm going to do three things for you. |
3:46.0 | I'm going to give you a land that will be yours and your descendants forever. I will make you the father of a great nation. And through you I will give a blessing the Messiah who will bless the entire world. |
