Summary

2 Thessalonians 1:5–10 So often, we misinterpret God’s patience as His absence. We want God to act on our timeline and according to our ways. But in Isaiah 55:8, God declares, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways” (NASB). Join Pastor Chuck Swindoll in this insightful, theological message on 2 Thessalonians 1:5–10. God will glorify the afflicted in eternity because of their belief. And He will judge those who rejected Him. Fix your eyes on the moment you will see Jesus face-to-face. Endure persecution and affliction with courage. Proclaim with joy, “How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!” (Romans 11:33 NASB).

Verse five, this is a plain indication of God's righteous judgment,

1:09.8

so that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom

1:12.3

of God for which indeed you are suffering.

1:16.1

Two things kind of bubble to the surface when I read verse 5.

1:20.5

The first is this, what you are going through is not a divine oversight.

1:26.0

You will notice it is a plain indication that God's judgment that he's

1:30.0

planned is right. The second thing I noticed from verse 5 is that what I am going through is the

1:37.2

initiation into the kingdom of God. See the way he puts it, so that you may be considered worthy

1:43.6

of the kingdom of God for which

1:45.7

indeed you are suffering. While thinking about verse five, I thought there are three things that

1:51.2

occur to us when we suffer. We mature, we are crushed, and we are awakened. Now suddenly the

1:59.6

ball bounces to the other court in verse six. After all, it is only

2:04.9

just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you. Look at the shift in the scene.
