My neighbor's yard was jammed with kids and sprinkled with adults.

I was standing amid a crush of activity when my daughter came skipping, literally skipping around the corner of the house.

The moment, our eyes met, a wide smile opened on her face and she started running toward me.

She was moving quickly with a bright face.

But my face was twisted and angry.

I opened my eyes wide with fury and screamed in a harsh and scary voice.

Chloe, stop, turn around, go away.

She stopped, exchanging her bright smile for shocked fear.

Apprehensive, she started to move toward me again.
