Welcome to another episode of the podcast where I'm answering your jazz and music questions five days a week to help you become a better jazz musician, to have more fun than ever playing music. Today we have a great question, actually, from one of our inner circle members named James Abrams, and he asks, how do you know when you have really learned a tune and it's ready for

performance? How do you know when you have really learned a tune and it's ready for performance?

All right. So we actually touched base on this question a little bit

last week, but we're going to really dive a little bit deeper, of course, in this episode on this one.

So the first thing that I want to start out by saying is a lot of people ask me this question.

And I would say that this question comes up almost every single month. And if it doesn't come up in one month, it comes up in the next, right? Because everybody kind of has this feeling. And it comes up

in a few different ways sometimes it comes up with

literally the question that's being asked which is how do i know when to i can perform the song like actually

play it with other people or play it in front of people but sometimes it's this idea of like well how do i know

when i know when i know a song good enough to move on to learning another one right right? So it's kind of the same sort of question

in the same ballpark. And my answer is, this is the baseline answer that I give at its most

basic level. And the answer is, you will never really feel ready to perform a song, or at least not fully prepared to perform a song, right?
