You may have noticed that disco music is having a bit of a renaissance these days.

It's all over TikTok. It's playing while you're shopping and in restaurants.

I want to go where nobody's been.

That's Cuffet from Beyonce's Grammy Award-winning album, Renaissance.

She says she was inspired by Black Queer House music, which, by the way, has its roots in the Chicago disco scene.

And hers especially, I think, did such a good job of nodding to all of the people that made

disco great and that made house music great. And like, she clearly did a lot of research to put that

album together. That's Curious City listener Busy Stephenson. Back in the early

days of the pandemic, listening to disco and other dance music gave her a way to escape the feeling of

being locked down at home. She especially loved dancing in her apartment to do a leap as album,

Future Nostalgia. At a full 180 crazy.

At a time when nobody was going to clubs, nobody was dancing, and I think that was a risk

for her to put that album out, and she did it anyways.

And to me, that album was like life-giving.

When I was like in my room alone in like May 2020.
