If you don't go any further in this video, I want to be very clear, Catholics do not believe

0:04.7

that we are saved by our works. What do we believe in? We believe, excuse me,

0:08.7

how many names father Mike Schmitts and this is essentially presents. There is this kind of, I don't

0:12.0

know, old argument or old debate that goes back to the 1500s when it came to those who broke

0:17.3

away from the Catholic church and started their own denominations about, is it faith or is it

0:21.7

works? In fact, one of the kind of cries was solar feeday or faith alone. And so sometimes people

0:29.0

say like, okay, so Protestants believe in faith alone, we're saved by faith alone, just

0:32.0

five by faith alone. Whereas Catholics believe that you're saved by your works, right? So this

0:37.0

kind of thing is faith or is it works? And on one hand, our Protestants saying it's faith,

0:40.8

0:56.4

saved by our works. What do we believe in? We believe that we are saved by grace through faith,

1:01.9

working us out in love. And there are a lot of Protestants who would say like, no, no, you have to,

1:06.1

there's some kind of thing you have to do. So, but there's some though who would say, no, no,

1:09.6

solar feeday, all you have to do is profess faith in Jesus. That's all you have to do is have faith

1:13.4

in Jesus. In fact, the scripture says, if you believe in your heart, profess with the lips, Jesus

1:16.7

is Lord, you'll be saved. Now, at the same time, we can't isolate a scripture passage and take it

1:22.3

and read it at the exclusion of all the other scriptural passages. So, how do I understand a

1:27.1

Catholic vision of salvation? Well, what we need is both faith and works. Let's go back to the

1:33.0

original definition. We're saved by grace, right? It's just a free gift, saved by grace. It's

1:38.6

God's free gift. It's unmerited. It's, it's, it is bestowed upon us before we have done anything
