Summary

In this latest edition of 'Dear Andy' (wherein Andy answers your questions submitted to him via his mailbag on The Athletic or on Twitter), Andy describes what a betting scandal in college football would look like. Why is an entity like the NFL more concerned with exercising a heavier hand against players who gamble on games than those who commit more serious offenses, a la Calvin Ridley? Andy also fields a question about Georgia's lack of transfer portal activity. Plus, which P5 Florida program will rise to the top first?

Hey, it's Andy.

0:09.8

And before we get to a great set of Dear Andy questions from you guys on a Dear Andy episode,

0:16.5

I just wanted to correct one thing I said.

0:19.1

The first question is about the Calvin Ridley case.

0:22.1

He's been suspended by the NFL. And I misspoke when I was discussing what he is accused of.

0:28.8

Calvin really, I said, placed a bet. And actually, he placed three bets according to the NFL.

0:35.6

Calvin himself got on Twitter and said it was for

0:38.3

$1,500 total. And I misspoke and said it was one bet for $1,500 total. It's actually

0:44.5

according to the NFL, three bets, according to Calvin early, $1,500 total. Small detail in the

0:51.0

grand scheme of things, but that does matter.

0:54.4

And also, one other thing I didn't mention in that answer that I did want to bring up is

1:00.5

Brian Flores accusing Stephen Ross, the dolphins owner of offering money so that the dolphins

1:07.0

could tank and get a higher draft pick a few years ago, that obviously would also require

1:12.7

a pretty harsh suspension. I would think if that could be proven that the other owners would

1:18.8

probably have to force Stephen Ross to sell the team. Now, I don't know how much of a punishment

1:23.5

that is exactly because he would get lots of money for the dolphins. And so he would still get

1:29.7

lots of money. But he would not be allowed to be an NFL owner anymore. I would think that would

1:34.7

be the level of punishment required if that were true. Now, they've got to prove it. But you'll see when

1:42.2

we get into that answer, we're talking about basically not just the punishment itself,

1:48.0

but how that compares to other punishments the NFL dolls out.

1:51.2

And I think quite a few of you guys would have been going,

1:54.7

wait, what about Stephen Ross?
