Summary

Sometimes, happiness requires a loss. Many people aren't willing to take that loss, which might be the very reason they are unhappy. Getting to happiness isn't always just doing what makes you happy. It can be deeper than that, and some people don't want to go there.

0:25.0	I have done this many times of my life and I have learned that sometimes you do have to sacrifice to be happy.
0:35.0	And that's a loaded word. I know there's a lot that could be sacrificed.

0:41.0	For example, when I was married before my wife and I absolutely needed the money, we were homeless, and we were very lucky to be living with her mom in her very tiny 600 square foot apartment which I am so grateful for so
0:59.7	grateful that we had that but we were still going to the soup kitchen every day and I ended up finally finding work.
1:07.6	This was during the mortgage crisis, I lost my condo, I went bankrupt and a lot of people were suffering back then.
1:13.8	I think it was around 2008 or something I forget and I finally got a job.
1:20.6	Yes I'm working I'm bringing home money.
1:23.8	And then three weeks later I hated the job and I didn't want to be there anymore, but I believed
1:29.1	I had to stay.
1:31.3	And my wife said, I'll support whatever decision you make and that's the day I quit and this is a longer involved story but I want to shorten this a lot of people have heard it if you haven't't, I've talked about it in previous episodes.
1:43.8	I got a big library, you can listen to them all.

1:49.0	I knew that we needed money, but was money bringing me the happiness and the good feelings that I wanted and it wasn't
1:58.7	about money even when we were broke? It wasn't about money. It was about more than that. There was something that was more valuable than money at that time. Money was absolutely necessary, but there was something more valuable and that was my integrity.
2:16.0	I felt like I needed to prioritize my integrity, and that meant I needed not feel good in myself about the decisions that I was making and I didn't feel good. In that job I did not feel good and my wife wanted me to feel good.
2:36.5	My wife wanted me to be comfortable in my own skin.
