Summary

We're following our interview with Julie Anne Long last week with someone else who Vanessa is obsessed with: Justine Eyre, the woman who reads Julie Anne Long's books.

Justine Eyre is a classically trained, multilingual actress who has narrated well over 400 audiobooks and received an Audie Award and multiple AudioFile Earphones Awards. We talked to her about her process of preparing to record a book, the joys of romance, and whether listening to an audiobook counts as 'reading.'

Last week, you heard us interview the incredible Julian Long.

But what you don't know is that I have listened to every Julian Long book I've ever read.

0:10.7

And in fact, I am a major consumer of audiobooks of romance novels.

I have been embarrassed several times by running into a friend while listening to a romance novel,

0:22.2

walking around town, and then unplugging my headphones by accident.

0:27.1

So they hear a snippet of a really sexy romance novel when what I meant to do was pause,

0:33.4

but I've unhooked the Bluetooth. Anyway, I am constantly listening to romance novels being

opinions as to which actors you prefer and whose voices and accents you like best.

0:50.6

And we are so lucky because we got one of my all-time favorite romance novel reader actors

0:59.1

on the phone to talk with us today. Her name is Justine Eyre. She reads all of Julian Long's books

1:06.8

to me, which is so generous of her, and she agreed to talk to us in this episode.

1:13.2

I'm Vanessa Zoltan, and here is an interview with Justine Eyre on Hot and Bothered.

Justine, we are so excited to have you here. I like really am not trying to throw shade on any

1:38.3

other romance readers, but you are my favorite romance narrator. And so I would just love to hear

1:46.3

a little bit about your process. Do you read the book before you go into the booth? Do you

1:52.6

assign your characters like accents and voices ahead of time? What is your process like?

1:59.1

I think I approach books in a very filmic, directorial way. So when I am each character,

2:05.8

I am that character. And back when I started, my body used to really get into my voice recording,

2:12.6

which was not a good thing, because back in the day you weren't recording on an iPad,

2:16.1

you'd have your script. So my hands would be flying. The script would be on the floor. It was very

2:21.2

dramatic. So I've calmed that part down, but I want to live in this world, and I want each character
