Summary

Audi’s readiness for its Formula 1 debut in 2026 is the focus of the latest edition of The Race F1 Podcast. Scott Mitchell-Malm attended Audi’s Munich event on Wednesday and joins Edd Straw to tell listeners all about it.

The progress with the power unit and the plans for testing are discussed, along with explaining why hopes are realistic, but high, for its performance level. We then hear Scott’s report from on site, which includes chats with F1 TV duo Chris Medland and Lawrence Barretto to bring you a flavour of the event.

Finally, Audi’s planned timeline for success and the chances of it delivering on that is weighed up in the context of the Sauber’s team’s improvements over the past year.

This episode also features a special segment looking at Shell's innovation partnership with Ferrari. Learn more about race fuel via the Shell Motorsports Website and follow @shellmotorsport on Instagram

The race is on, and Audi became the first team to hold a 2026 F1 launch of sorts,

0:18.5

with an event in Munich, giving us the first taste of how much will change

0:21.9

for Sauba next year. But although it certainly has the heritage, what should we expect from the

future of the latest manufacturer to take on Grand Prix racing? I'm Ed's draw and joined me to

0:42.7

Yeah, absolutely. To answer it slightly more accurately, no.

0:54.0

didn't really appreciate this

0:55.1

until probably late yesterday evening when the event was wrapping up was it was actually quite

1:00.5

nice to see one of these 26 show cars in person, because I don't know about you, but I became

1:05.9

so immune to the 22 show car, because the 22 car got rolled out silverstone in 21 I think in

1:16.7

advance of advance of the new rules and then everyone every team and every team's mother had a

1:24.2

show car that would appear somewhere whereas the 26 car is still so novel.

1:29.0

Actually, seeing it in person, I think actually there are moments where you might have just

1:35.4

briefly let yourself think that was an Audi F1 car.

1:38.6

It wasn't.

1:39.2

It wasn't even the full 2026 livery.

1:42.7

But it's an interesting showcase. i know there's a lot of people

1:46.7

who don't really care about aesthetics and obviously they're not as important as what's under the

under the bodywork or the actual bodywork of the real thing but it's they they can tell a story and for
