Hello everyone and welcome to police off the cuff real crime stories.

I'm your host, retired NYPD sergeant Bill Cannon, a 27-year veteran of the NYPD.

You know, folks, this crash in Washington, D.C. area between a Black Hawk helicopter

and American Airlines jet.

It's just such a tragic thing, just such a horrific thing, because we as consumers,

individuals, we take flights all the time and we just expect there to be safety and for things

like this never to happen. And when they do happen, it is a rare event.

I mean, for the millions and millions of flights that cross the skies every year,

thousands of flights every day, airline safety is pretty darn good, you know.

But it's almost, when we think about it, inexcusable for a single mistake.

Because the ramifications to a single mistake, and this is a tragic, tragic mistake.

In this incident, of the loss of 67, 67 lives snuffed out.

Some outstanding people, wonderful human beings, you know, Olympic skaters and the Army Black Hawk helicopter, the three individuals that want that undoubtedly outstanding human beings.

So it hits us hard. And we question and we want to know the answers. But I just want

everyone to think about that we can't know the answers immediately. And there has been some

media almost giving the answers already and I just want

you to know perhaps their conclusions may be close to the final conclusions that will

take about a year to come by the National Transportation Safety Board,

to put this into a detailed investigation and come to their conclusions.

We'll take about a year.

But now they're coming out with some,

some what they would consider to be conclusions right away.
