get started. We are going to take a moment and wish all the dads of which I am one,

a happy and blessed Father's Day. Every year on Father's Day, I like to share some of my favorite all-time quotes about Father's Day.

And I want to start with this one from Mark Twain, who famously and humorously quipped. When I was a boy

of 14, my father was so ignorant. I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when

I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much he had learned in seven years.

Believe you and me, I've shared this many times with my two teenage boys.

They don't get it, not yet anyway.

Maybe when they're 21 they will.

Along that same line of thinking, Margaret Truman said, it's only when you grow up

and step back from him or leave him for your own home. It's only then that you can measure his

greatness and fully appreciate it. Billy Graham is quoted as saying, a good father is one

of the most unsung, unpraised, unnoticed, and yet one of the most valuable assets

in our society. I would add to that that fathers are the most attacked as well.

And wouldn't it stand a reason that the enemy would attack the father, smite the shepherd, scatter the sheep,

and I think you would agree that he's been

met with some measure of success in destroying the family by way of the father.

It's this last one that I think says at all. The story is told of how one night a father overheard

his son pray, Dear God, make me the kind of man my daddy is. Later that night the father

prayed, dear God, make me the kind of man, my son thinks I am.

The Prophet Malachi in the first part of verse 6 of chapter 4 writes, he will turn the

hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers.

I think that's a great Father's Day prayer and verse.
