Good morning everyone and welcome back to another morning with the masters where we devote ourselves to the Lord daily with you. Good morning you guys.

We are picking up with day two of our bouncing back from disappointment devotion on the Bible app. There's a link to that in the description of the podcast if you guys want to follow along with us.

And as always I'm going to read the scripture and then Tori is going to pick up the Divo. Let's do it. I'm actually going to read three scripture because they are just incredible. Let's do it.

And the first one is Luke chapter 24 verse 17 and it says this. He asked them what are you discussing so intently as you walk along. They stopped short sadness written across their faces.

The next scripture is Habakkuk chapter 3 verse 17 and 18 and it says this.

Even though fig trees have no blossoms and there are no grapes on the vines, even though the olive crop fails and the fields lie empty and barren, even though the flock dies in the fields and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord.

I will be joyful in the God of my salvation in the last verses Psalms 34 verse 18 and it says this.

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted. He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

When life refuses to deliver on our expectations, the effect on us can be devastating. However, discouragement is nothing new.

In Luke 24, two disciples walk on the emus road. After the crucifixion, they embark on a seven mile walk back home to emus.

They discuss what had just taken place, trying to make sense of it all. Jesus was supposed to deliver them from oppression and usher in a new glorious kingdom.

In short, disappointment takes hold of them. Enter Jesus who appears as a stranger to these discouraged disciples and ask them what they're talking about.

Put another way he wants to know how they feel and they give him an unvarnished truth of their sadness.

We know their pain when the bills pile up and the bank account shrinks. Maybe you've wondered where God is in it all.

As the marriage becomes stale and the job leaves a sour taste in your mouth, you may have found yourself thinking like the God of the universe has abandoned ship.

In those moments, we might do well to remember that our friend Jesus sticks closer than a brother.

Don't lose heart. God has never left your side and he has a plan to see you through even the most discouraging circumstances.

While we may not always understand why we go through such seasons, we can take comfort and knowing that the Lord causes all things to work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose.

This is one of those tough pills to swallow devotionals. It's one of those where even reading that first paragraph about your experience, not meeting your expectations and reading that story about the man who applied to Harvard but ends up selling insurance on the side instead.

It's just one of those things where we go through this all the time where we have a hope of what we think will experience which becomes an expectation.
