Summary

There are several collections that are on trend right now, and we're going to discuss them. Collecting items can be fun searching for just the right addition to your collection, then there's more fun at home finding just the perfect way to arrange and display them. And the best part is that it can be done without cluttering up your home, if you do it right. Kelly collects vintage white ironstone dishes, while Anita collects Staffordshire dishes, and French transferware dishes. As you add to your collect, be sure to keep curating and getting rid of the less desirable pieces while keeping the best ones. That hopefully, can keep your collection manageable. Is it the thrill of the hunt?

Hi, I'm Anita Joyce here with Kelly Welkness and this is decorating tips and tricks.

0:15.0

Today we are talking about collector items that are hot.

0:19.0

Not only is it about decor, but it's about fun things that you

0:22.4

can go out on a treasure hunt for and then add to your home and make it even more beautiful.

0:27.6

And it's a very interesting topic from another perspective. So today we're not only going to

0:32.6

discuss a few things that are hot as collectors' items, but also we're going to discuss what motivates

0:39.5

the drive to collect. And then maybe we'll even have some time to discuss how you might

0:44.6

want to display these fabulous things that you're bringing home. So what people collect is varied

0:51.1

from Beanie Babies to Modern Art and everything in between. And it's very interesting to me, at least,

0:57.8

to explore why. Why do people collect? Not even so much like why do they collect what they collect,

1:02.9

but just the idea of why you would want a collection. So I did a little research. I mean,

1:09.0

of course, everybody has ideas in their mind and they might think about what their own motivation is if they are a collector. But I did a little deep research on the psychoanalytic perspective on collecting. There are a few motivations that sort of bubble to the top. So I thought I'd throw those out there and maybe we could have a little quick chat about those before we dive into the actual items that we have to share with you

1:31.6

today. So number one, and this is in no particular order, but the first one is a selfish

1:38.0

motivation. So hoarding. Now, it could be that you just, oh, I want all the dishes or I want all the fill in the blank.

1:47.4

But it could be this sense that there's going to be scarcity at some point.

1:52.3

Are you referring to my toilet paper sash?

1:57.4

No, I would not call that one of my collections, however.

2:00.7

No, I only collect one thing, but it is on this list.

2:03.1

Well, if you are artfully displayed them in some sort of basket or some other item to hold them in,

2:10.7

I mean, it could be considered a collection.

2:12.7

It is a moving collection.
