0:12.0	And I'm Patrick Miller. As a kid the only kingdom I knew
0:16.6	about was the Disney kingdoms, princes and princesses. That never intrigued me much so my next encounter with a kingdom was the stories of King Arthur with his Knights Aerent, the round table, the royal court.
0:28.8	Now as an adult, the Bible is really the only place I consistently see the word kingdom.
0:34.0	Well, maybe the one exception to that is Chief's Football.
0:37.2	Go Chief's Kingdom by the way.
0:38.6	And while that's awesome that there is a Chief's Kingdom, it's not very helpful when I'm reading my Bible because the
0:43.9	kingdom of God has nothing to do with that. The problem is that for most of us, like
0:47.7	it or not, our imaginative framework for a kingdom hasn't been shaped by the
0:52.4	Bible, it's been shaped by Disney or
0:54.8	medieval stories or maybe the chiefs. To me a kingdom has national boundary lines.
1:01.3	A kingdom has a monarch, errands, lords, knights, maids, and national boundary of God, I don't tend to picture something that's very close to what the Bible was saying.
1:14.8	To be honest, for the longest time, I kind of thought about it like this magical place with
1:18.6	angels and clouds and harps.
1:21.0	I was never quite sure where its boundary lines were or where they began, where they ended,
1:25.4	but I figured that it was basically the place I would go when I died. That's what the kingdom of God is.
1:30.0	And so every time I read Jesus talking about the kingdom of God, I accidentally replaced it in my head with the
1:36.2	place that the angels live where I go when I die.
1:39.8	That meant that all of Jesus' kingdom talk was basically about how to get out of hell and get to the good
1:45.0	place when I finally kick it.
1:47.0	Maybe you thought similar things too.
