I live in the borough of Croydon, where over the next three weeks a decision will be made

about whether the council can afford to keep open the area's libraries.

It's expected that four will be closed completely and half of all the libraries will be downgraded.

Now it's not clear what it means exactly to downgrade a library.

Maybe they'll be downgraded to a cat litter tray. So they'll still be open, but instead of

concentrating on the lending of books, which nobody wants these days, pages will be torn out of

the old books to line the floors and your pets can wander in and shit
